Yellow Oxide is used for a wider range of colors in landscape painting. It is the principal color used when making browns and earthy colors generally and also for mixing with blues to make natural looking greens. It can be lightened  with Naples Yellow Light and this will make beautiful creamy colors. Mixed with a little Cadmium Yellow Medium it makes the sort of golden yellows found in the paintings of Vincent Van Gogh. Very beautiful browns can be made by mixing Yellow Oxide with Transparent Umber and a rich pink earth color is found in mixtures with Primary Red. Greens possible with mixtures with Yellow Oxide include bright greens such as the grass green made with Matisse Emerald, and tropical green turquoises are made from mixtures with Cobalt Teal. Olive greens can be made with most of the blues such as Cobalt Blue, Prussian Blue, or Mineral Blue. Each has their own character. Soft colors like the leaves of gum trees can be made by mixing Yellow Oxide with Australian Blue Gum. Yellow Oxide may be a color used for thousands of years, but it makes beautiful colors that are as fresh as any modern artist desires.
