Mars Black is a widely used pigment with a high rating for opacity, lightfastness and permanence. It is also non-toxic and has no known health hazards. Matisse Mars Black is completely opaque with a warm, brownish undertone. It is made from inorganic synthetic iron oxide, and is a fairly recent invention from the early 20th century.
