Langridge, since its establishment, has supplied artists with highest specification pigments sourced from around the world. Every colour is verified for its origin and identified for its chemical characteristics to provide the artist with a range of pigments noted for their quality of grade and fineness, ensuring the maximum benefit in tone and chroma.
All colours are pure single pigment types with no blending. As colourmen, Langridge supplies traditional earths and historical colours from original sources as well as constantly researching and selecting modern pigments to satisfy artist demand for new colours of vibrancy and intensity.
Sumatran A1 grade Damar Resin, a very clean and bright constituent in oil painting and egg tempera mediums. Add to mediums to create optical depth and transparency. Use as a traditional picture varnish for oil painting. Damar Varnish is easily removed but has a slight tendency toward yellowing and embrittling with age.
Hydrogenated castor oil (Castor Wax) is a non-yellowing hard wax. Used as a rheology modifier for oil paints and mediums; may be added to other waxes to increase hardness and durability.
Very pale, very clean Refined Beeswax beads. When melted and added to oil mediums will impart body and ‘shortness’ to the brushstroke. Can also be added to oils, oil mediums and varnishes as a matting agent. Binder in true encaustic, whereby melted wax is coloured with artists’ pigments and applied to a solid support whilst molten. Beeswax may also be mixed with Carnauba Wax and Distilled Turpentine for the manufacture of timber polishes.
RABBIT SKIN GLUE
Refined animal glue size for sizing canvasses prior to oil priming for the prevention of canvas rot. Painting directly onto Rabbit Skin Glue size with oil colours is not recommended as it has the potential to create under-bound paint.
Genuine Natural English Whiting; Chalk (Calcium Carbonate) that is added as filler for water-based paints to create opacity, for the manufacture of traditional glue gesso and as filler for the manufacture of soft pastels.
FINE WHITE MARBLE DUST
This manufactured calcium carbonate is extra fine, dense, inert and very white. Added as filler for water-based paints to create opacity. It may also be used as an extender for oil colours due to its lower oil absorption index than Gilders’ Whiting.
Pumice powder is absorbent and inert, a filler that adds texture to primers, paints & mediums. May be used as a soft abrasive for cutting and polishing. Also used as grain filler.
BLACK DECORATIVE PRIMER
Especially formulated for use with Langridge ‘metal bases’, new Langridge Black Decorative Primer will ensure optimum results with Rust and Verdigris Bases on a wide range of surfaces including plastics, timber, brick, render and cement.
No prior sealing needed. Black Decorative Primer is a sealer and primer in one. It is both fluid and highly opaque for ease of brushing that does not need further dilution. This primer is sufficient for most surfaces in a single coat or in two coats for extremely absorbent substrates.
Simply apply Langridge Rust Base over the primer coat, react with Oxidising Patina, and watch as the real orange-red rust appears almost instantly.
Now rivalling Rust Base in popularity, this copper-based paint can be applied to anything that Rust Base can. Verdigris Base, reacted with Oxidising Patina will provide a classic, real green-grey verdigris patina onto almost any surface.
To activate your Rust or Verdigris finish, simply apply Oxidising Patina and wait.
The longer the oxidising patina stays wet when applied, the stronger the reaction and brighter the final patina will be. Try experimenting to find the effect you want. Approximately 45 minutes after applying to Rust Base, red rust is created. Leaving the surface wet for around 90 minutes will result in a bright orange-yellow colour.
Use to ‘lock-in’ the patinated metal finish. Recommended when applying rust or verdigris finishes in exterior applications to prevent changes in the patinated finish when exposed to rain over extended periods of time. Leave to air dry.
